Pierre Fraiture
Of French and Russian descent, Pierre grew up in New York City, where his family had strong ties with the Art world. From age 4, he was enrolled in children’s workshops at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to which he still affectionally refers as his “favorite therapist”.
One of his fondest memories is of his mother taking him at age 8 to an event honoring Jean-Michel Basquiat in a Soho Loft. The artist, along with the eclectic / electric party scene, made a lasting impression on Pierre, who still feels a particularly strong connection with the 80’s and 90’s culture.
Pierre attended the French Lyçée of New York, which was to prove significant in his life and art in different ways. The school’s international student body, in which many races and creeds were represented, became a source of life-long friendships and fueled Pierre’s desire to be of the world in a meaningful way.
The school provided a meeting ground for his younger brother, Nikolai, and Julian Casablancas who developed a close frienship and later formed the international music band, The Strokes. During these early years, Pierre spent much of his time traveling internationally in Music and Art circles, and through this became part of a highly nurturing creative community while accumulating an impressive body of work.
In 2017, Pierre and his brother Nikolai formed the experimental collective Arts Elektra. Later that year, they introduced the first chapter Le Réveil during a performance at the World Trade Center.
In 2019, Pierre exhibited alongside many notable artists in the Meet Me In The Bathroom art show curated by Lizzy Goodman and Hala Matar at the Hole gallery in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Later that year, he was also included in the Myengdong International Art Fair in Seoul, Korea. Later that year, Pierre also performed with Arts Elektra and showed work during Miami’s Art Basel week and was preparing his first solo show before the Pandemic changed plans.
As a result of the limitations imposed by the Pandemic, Pierre and his brother began making films reflecting the chapters if the C’est Le Moment Ou Jamais collection, notably Lakes of Fire, What a time to be alive and the upcoming La Machine Infernale. The brothers have toured internationally helping charities raise money for various causes through the Arts Elektra Collective. In the Fall of 2021, the brothers presented Cultivez Votre Jardin alongside Patti Smith and other notable performers.
Today, Pierre divides his time between his studios in Manhattan and Connecticut, formerly the site of a french summer camp that his family ran. He is currently working on several international projects where Art, Music and Fashion converge.
